Public Utility Commission Opens Proceeding to Review Utility Regulation
In response to a request from the Vermont Department of Public Service, the Vermont Public Utility Commission (formerly known as the Public Service Board) has opened an investigation to evaluate existing forms of utility regulation in light of emerging trends in the energy and utility sectors.
In opening the proceeding the Vermont PUC noted that “substantial transformations in technology, state policy, and other areas have altered the regulatory landscape and that it would be appropriate to reexamine Vermont’s regulatory structure to assess how well it reflects these changes.”
The PUC has scheduled an initial workshop for August 8, 2017, and established a date of July 18, 2017, as an initial deadline for comments on potential topics for discussion at the workshop.
For more information about the proceeding, including the order opening the investigation and how to file comments with the PUC through its electronic filing system, ePUC (search for case number 17-3142), please see the PUC’s webpage Proceeding to Review Utility Regulation.
