Dig Safe: Underground Facility
Damage Prevention

Planning a project that involves digging?

Don’t forget to include your utilities in your excavation project. Call Dig Safe® toll-free at 1-888-DIG-SAFE to keep your utilities apprised of your plans.

Dig Safe® is an underground damage prevention system comprised primarily of electric, natural gas, telephone and cable companies. If there are underground facilities in your work area, your utility will flag the lines they maintain, preventing injury and saving you the expense of costly repairs.

Vermont law requires individuals to notify Dig Safe® at least 48 hours before excavation on public and private property, rights of ways and easements.

Both federal and state laws require boring contractors and other excavators to notify appropriate utility companies before beginning work. "Dig Safe" and "Call Before You Dig" are systems--required by these laws and funded by member companies--which allow us to notify the appropriate utilities with one telephone call. These systems were created to promote public safety, avoid costly damage to underground facilities, and reduce cost and time of notifications.
