Natural Gas & Propane Engineering

The Engineering Division administers the pipeline safety certification agreement between the U.S. Department of Transportation and the State of Vermont. Under this agreement, Engineering performs inspections, development, and enforcement of regulations associated with the Natural Gas Act of 1968 and subsequent revisions to the act. The program includes natural gas companies and jurisdictional propane operators. The Engineering Division also works with other state agencies, State police, Emergency management and Fire Marshals to provide training, technical advice, inspection and enforcement assistance, incident investigation, and emergency response concerning gas safety related matters. In addition post 9/11 pipeline security has become a concern of the U.S. Office of Homeland Security.

DigSafe: Underground Facility Damage Prevention

The Engineering Division is responsible for managing Vermont's DigSafe enforcement program. [need more description of what ED does with DigSafe, vs. how digsafe works which is on its own page.]
