Public WiFi Hotspots in Vermont

Public WiFi Hotspots in Vermont

The Department prepared a map of public buildings in Vermont where WiFi with access to the internet is publicly available as a resource for remote learning and working from home. These sites are accessible at all hours from a parked vehicle on the road or parking lot.  As a COVID-19 safety precaution, we discourage users from entering the premises or congregating outside.  These sites should be accessed from within a parked vehicle. This information was compiled through an email survey of schools, libraries, and town offices conducted in March 2020.

The Department of Public Service would like to thank our partners that assisted with gathering data and providing the information to the public. These partners include the Vermont Department of Libraries, Agency of Commerce and Community Development, Agency of Education, the Southern Vermont Communications Union District, Deerfield Valley Communications Union District, NEK Broadband,  all Regional Planning Commissions, and Front Porch Forum.

If a password for the WiFi network was provided, you can view it by clicking on the icon for the hotspot location. On the map, buildings are depicted in four colors, as shown in the legend in the upper right of the page:

The Department will continue to update this map as new information is received.  If you manage one of these sites and would like to update the information or if you know of another site that should be included, please submit new or updated information via this form.

Personal Device Security Suggestions and Reminders

When using open networks, please remember to protect your sensitive information (such as banking or other personally identifying numbers).  Please continue to be vigilant with your use of hotspots and public WiFi networks, just as you would have before the arrival of the COVID-19 virus.   The following links to several articles may help with your navigation and use of these networks.
