Rural Broadband Technical Assistance

In 2019 the Vermont Legislature passed Act 79 (an act relating to broadband deployment throughout Vermont). The Act created a new position, the Rural Broadband Technical Assistance Specialist, to directly assist communities with broadband expansion by providing outreach, technical assistance, and other support services to communications union districts and other units of government, nonprofit organizations, cooperatives, and for-profit businesses for the purpose of expanding broadband service to unserved and underserved locations.

Other support services include providing business model templates for various approaches, including formation of or partnership with a cooperative, a communications union district, a rural economic development infrastructure district, an electric utility, or a new or existing internet service provider as an operator of the network.

To request technical assistance or support, please contact the Rural Broadband Technical Assistance Specialist, Robert Fish, at robert.fish@vermont.gov; (802) 522-2617.
